It is difficult to conduct double blind studies with DMSO because of its distinctive odor, but it is always possible to have studies where the results are compared to current treatment. #2 DMSO is a product that is derived from MSM, and it has many of the properties of DMSO. It has not been subject to the medical studies of DMSO and is not considered to be as effective as DMSO in treating most ailments. However, it does not cause the patient to have the garlic-like DMSO breath.
