Dombey and Son

Dombey and Son deals with the topic of feminism. The focus of the novel is on what happens when Dombey has a daughter instead of the desired son. Mrs. Dombey dies shortly after giving birth to her second child, a long-awaited son. Dombey and Son, in full Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son, Wholesale, Retail, and for Exportation, novel by Charles Dickens, published in 20 monthly installments during 1846–48 and in book form in 1848. It follows the fortunes of a shipping firm owner, who is frustrated at the lack of a son to follow him in his footsteps; he initially rejects his daughter's love before eventually becoming reconciled with her before his death.
