Dr. Siri Paiboun

Laos, 1976. In this offbeat and delightful mystery series, Dr. Siri Paiboun, a 72-year old, Paris-trained doctor, one of the last of the educated class remaining in Laos after the Communist Pathet Lao have taken over, is appointed state coroner at 72 years old, despite having no training, equipment, experience or even inclination for the job. When confronted with mysterious deaths, the doctor enlists old friends, village shamans, forest spirits, dream visits from the dead - and even the occasional bit of medical deduction - to solve crimes.
